Ligament Reconstruction

How do you reconstruct a ligament?
When the ligaments get too weak or destroyed to repair, one has to undergo a surgical procedure for ligament reconstruction. Ligament reconstruction surgery is a procedure, where the damaged ligament is replaced by a tendon harvested from other parts of the body.

Apart from ACL ( Anterior cruciate ligament) & PCL (Posterior cruciate ligament ) reconstructions in the knee joint, other ligament reconstructions are medial collateral ligament (MCL- runs from the inside surface of the upper shin bone to the inner surface of the lower thigh bone), lateral collateral ligament (LCL- runs on the outer aspect of the knee joint connecting femur to fibula), posterolateral corner (PLC- once called as dark side of the knee includes multiple structures like popliteus tendon, popliteofibular ligament).
