These are the blood cell-forming adult stem cells found in bone marrow. Every type of blood cell in the bone marrow starts as a stem cell.
Besides, adult stem cells have also been found in most parts of the body, including brain, bone marrow, blood vessels, skin, teeth and heart.
MSCs (Mesenchymal Stem Cells) have an ability to develop into any mesodermal tissue. Thus, they can be prompted to form precursor cells to develop into tissues including bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon, and ligament. Hence, stem cells play a significant role in the regeneration and repair of these tissues.
These cells can be easily isolated, processed and made available for clinical use. They can be administered through injections. These stem cell injections can help in the healing of bone and cartilage defects due to trauma, tendon and ligament injuries. They also have a significant role in the treatment of Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of hip, where in bone regeneration sets in after stem cell (BMAC- Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate) infiltration in the initial stages of AVN.
